CCAC Stories

My name is Laura Ingles Eubanks and I am writing to inform you about a very special dog that I had adopted on July 22, 2000. I will not take up too much of your time. I just would like to let people know that adopting a dog from a shelter can be very rewarding.

Most people will not adopt from a local shelter because they think that something is “wrong” with the animal that is not true. Most of the times the animals are mistreated by heartless people and all the animal needs is a chance to show that they are full of love and affection. She was six months old. She is a Lab/mix with boxer, color: black and white. (Adoption receipt attached).

I was told by one of your employees that she was found just wandering around. She has been with me on a remarkable journey:

Her name is Pepper Ann and she has a loving gentle spirit that would fill anyone’s heart with delight. I am very blessed to have her. I had Pepper Ann for seven months when I moved my mother down from New York due to her failing health. She was a diabetic and had renal failure. My mom also suffered from mini-strokes and was in and out of the hospital. In January 2001, Pepper Ann welcomed “Grandma” with a smile and a wagging tail. I think Pepper Ann instantly knew how sick my mom was. She became my mom’s comforter. On days when my mom would have a bad reaction from dialysis, Pepper Ann would put her head on my mom’s lap. During good days my mom would watch TV and always share her snacks with Pepper.

Pepper Ann even rode with us to the Dialysis Clinics, First in Marietta then in Cartersville. As the years went on and my mom’s health was deteriorating, Pepper was even more attentive. My mom went from walking with a cane to a walker, then in a wheelchair. Pepper Ann would faithfully follow my mom and I down the hall standing beside us every time. Her divine attention that she gave to my mom to the end is a special gift from God. I always knew in my heart that Pepper Ann had a distinctive purpose. After my mom went to be with the Lord back in 2004, I started looking for trainers. I believe with all my heart that the Lord had his hand on this dream come true.

Pepper Ann and I trained with an excellent, loving, good hearted trainer named Ann Cranford. She is a natural with dogs and is very talented with her skills. I have also been blessed with her friendship. Pepper Ann is now a registered Therapy Dog with Therapy Dogs Inc. She visits Maple Ridge nursing home in Cartersville twice a month. My precious Pepper is always happy to visit the residents with “a smile and her wagging tale.” My plans for her this fall is to take her to visit the sick children stricken with cancer at St.Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.

You have a blessed day and thank you for letting me share Pepper Ann’s story.

Pet Adoption from Cobb County Animal Shelter was a very rewarding experience for us.

We had previously adopted "Sammie Joe" (the bigger dog) from Paulding County Animal Shelter and while she was a playful puppy, we realized that she needed some company while we were at work everyday.

Cindy Franklin, of the Cobb County Animal Shelter, called me one day and said that they had a little red dog that came in as a stray and that she needed a good home. Cindy stated that she was a little snappy and they were concerned about who would adopt her and she wanted me to come by and see her. Sure enough, the little red dog tried to bite me on our first visit! However, after just being around her for a few minutes I could tell that she was just nervous and due to her being a stray she was just trying to protect herself.

On January 6, 1997 we adopted the little red dog and named her Cholie. She has turned out to be the most loving and loyal dog I could ever ask for. She wouldn't hurt a flea and never makes any attempts to snap at anybody.

We are so thankful that Cindy was on the ball trying to find a good home for just one of the many stray dogs that Cobb County Animal Shelter gets. Cholie is so much fun but she just needed a good home and someone who would love her!
